Develop a modular actuation unit for each finger of our prosthetic hand, integrating three motors and a dedicated control board coupled directly to the finger and communicating with the other modules over a compact bus (e.g. CAN). This replaces the current single-board, low-DOF design with a more dexterous, easily repairable architecture. Two students would work in parallel: one on motor selection, finger design and the actuation mechanism, the other on the electronic control board and its communication interface.
Apply nowBuilding on last semester's task-specific attachment system for our transradial prosthesis, this project fixes its alignment issues, characterizes and adjusts its safety force threshold, and designs a new task-specific tool-hand chosen together with an amputee counsellor. One student focuses on optimizing the mounting plug and threshold, the other on designing the interchangeable tool-hand itself, both prioritizing real user utility, robustness and ease of mounting.
Apply nowDesign, fabricate and evaluate a flexible multi-electrode surface-EMG interface for the forearm, replacing our current rigid electrode modules with one that better conforms to the limb and maintains stable skin contact. The interface will connect to N-Pulse's custom EMG acquisition boards; the resulting prototype will be characterized and compared against the current rigid modules for signal quality and mechanical stability.
